James V. Schall, S.J., is Professor of Government at Georgetown University. In addition to his many books and articles, he writes two columns, “Sense and Nonsense,” in Crisis magazine and “Schall on Chesterton,” in Gilbert Magazine.

He is the author of numerous books on social issues, spirituality, culture, and literature including Another Sort of Learning (1988), Idylls and Rambles (1994), On the Unseriousness of Human Affairs: Teaching, Writing, Playing, Believing, Lecturing, Philosophizing, Singing, Dancing (2002). His most recent books are The Life of the Mind: On the Joys and Travails of Thinking (ISI, 2006), The Sum Total of Human Happiness (St. Augustine's Press, 2006), and The Regensburg Lecture (St. Augustine's Press, 2007).
